About
Bristol Dockyards is the home of Brunel's SS Great Britain and ideas that changed the world. A thriving harbourside destination, it brings the radical spirit of Brunel and Bristol to life through all-year-round cultural programming, charitable work and four defining experiences:
- The SS Great Britain Experience, where visitors can discover new passenger stories in our interactive museum before climbing aboard the world’s first great ocean liner in her original dry dock, to imagine transatlantic life at sea in 1843.
- Being Brunel Museum. An immersive introduction to the visionary behind the innovation, go inside the mind (literally) of one of Britain’s greatest engineers.
- The Brunel Institute. Housing over 75,000 original drawings, letters and items in one the world’s finest maritime archives.
- And the Historic Dockyard itself. A cultural campus of learning, research, community, connection and conservation slap bang on the banks of Bristol.
If you're feeling brave, book a Go Aloft session and climb the ship's rigging to over 25m above ground level!
